Blood pressure checks in HORNCHURCH, RM12 5AS at Healthcare Pharmacy - Hornchurch

Healthcare Pharmacy - Hornchurch in HORNCHURCH (RM12 5AS) provides the official NHS Community Pharmacy Blood Pressure Check Service at 2 TADWORTH PARADE, ELM PARK. Our pharmacist uses a clinically validated arm cuff in a private consultation room to measure your blood pressure and heart rhythm.

Why check your blood pressure?

High blood pressure (hypertension) rarely causes symptoms, yet it is one of the leading causes of stroke, heart attacks, kidney disease, and vascular dementia. The only way to know your numbers is to get checked regularly.

What does this cardiovascular check detect?

Early undetected high blood pressure (hypertension)
Low blood pressure (hypotension) causing dizziness
Irregular pulse or suspected atrial fibrillation (AF)
Cardiovascular risk factors (diet, salt, smoking, stress)
White coat syndrome vs true elevated pressure
Need for 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)
Targeted lifestyle interventions to naturally lower readings
Direct communication with your NHS GP surgery

If your clinic reading is elevated, we can fit you with a free 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) to measure your blood pressure throughout your daily routine.

Who is eligible for a free NHS check?

Free NHS Check if you are

An adult aged 40 or over who does not have an existing diagnosis of hypertension

GP referral or private check if

Under 40 with a strong family history, or already diagnosed and monitored by your GP

Adults under 40 can also be checked at pharmacist discretion if there is a known family history of early heart disease.

What happens at your blood pressure check?

1

Relaxation & preparation

You sit quietly for a few minutes in our private consultation room to allow your resting heart rate to settle.

2

Automated measurement

A comfortable cuff is placed around your upper arm and inflated to take accurate readings.

3

Instant results & guidance

The pharmacist explains your systolic and diastolic numbers and provides lifestyle advice or ABPM setup if needed.

Free on the NHS. Same-day appointments available.Book appointment

What happens after your check?

Depending on your blood pressure numbers, the pharmacist will provide one of the following:

Normal result reassurance

Personalised advice on maintaining healthy blood pressure, with a reminder to recheck in 1-2 years.

Free 24hr ABPM monitoring

A lightweight monitor to take home for 24 hours to confirm whether you have true hypertension.

Direct GP notification

We send your validated readings securely to your NHS GP for clinical follow-up or medication review.

For more information, see the NHS blood pressure page.

How should I prepare?

Avoid caffeine, smoking, and vigorous exercise for 30 minutes before your test. Wear a loose top with sleeves that easily roll up.

How much does it cost?

The check and any follow-up 24-hour ambulatory monitoring (ABPM) are completely free on the NHS for all eligible adults aged 40 and over.
