Clinical Overview

What is HPV Vaccine (Gardasil 9)?

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a widespread sexually transmitted virus affecting both males and females. High-risk oncogenic HPV types (specifically 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) are directly responsible for over 99% of cervical cancers, as well as significant proportions of anal, penile, throat (oropharyngeal), vaginal, and vulval cancers. Low-risk HPV types 6 and 11 cause approximately 90% of genital warts. Gardasil 9 is the 9-valent recombinant HPV vaccine providing the broadest coverage available against all 9 clinically important HPV strains. It protects both men and women against HPV-related cancers and genital warts. Dosing is 2 doses (aged 9–14) or 3 doses (aged 15+) at 0, 2, and 6 months.
