Clinical Overview

What is NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Service?

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Immunity from previous infections and earlier vaccinations naturally wanes over time, and new virus variants continually emerge. Seasonal NHS COVID-19 booster vaccinations significantly bolster neutralizing antibody levels and cellular immunity, reducing the likelihood of severe illness, hospitalization, and post-COVID complications. Our pharmacy participates in the national NHS COVID-19 seasonal campaign, administering the latest MHRA-approved and JCVI-recommended variant-adapted mRNA or protein-based vaccines (such as Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty or Moderna Spikevax). The vaccination takes only a few minutes and provides updated protection against circulating variants.

  • 2

Recovery & Safety Net

After Your Appointment

Clinical advice for ongoing recovery and support:

  • Rest quietly for a few moments after your injection. Normal, mild side effects include tenderness, pain, and redness in the injected arm, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint aches, and mild fever or chills. These typically resolve within 1 to 3 days.
  • Take paracetamol as needed and keep your arm moving gently to relieve stiffness. Avoid heavy arm exercise for 24 hours.
  • Safety-netting: Seek urgent medical care (call 999 or go to A&E) in the rare event that you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, a rapid or pounding heartbeat (palpitations), or symptoms of a severe allergic reaction.
